Flower Photographs

At the end of September we visited Washington, DC, to see an exhibit of George de Forest Brush's Indian paintings at the National Gallery of Art. This is the first time that Brush's Indian paintings have been brought together as the single subject of an exhibit. Family members gathered together and had the opportunity to see well-known paintings side-by-side with ones that have been sequestered away in private collections until now.

More on all of that another time, as well as the Dublin artists on exhibit at the newly-renovated and renamed Smithsonian American Art Museum . This is a wonderful museum, formerly the National Museum of American Art and National Portrait Gallery now brought together under one fabulous roof, with the Luce Foundation conservation and open storage areas in the old Patent Office. We can't wait to return.

Another highlight of the trip was a visit to the US Botanic Garden on Capitol Hill. I took photographs of various plants and flowers while strolling through a lush, peaceful environment that provides a wonderful escape from the busy city. If we lived in Washington, I think I'd visit there all the time or somehow beg to be amongst the fleet of gardeners that work there.

Technical difficulties have been preventing me from posting artwork. While I'm still struggling with getting good scanned images, etc., there is new hope in that department with two artist friends who have offered to help me. So there is hope now for finally getting some collage pieces up on the blog and having this regular outlet for artwork. But meanwhile, no technical problems with the camera and these flowers are begging for exhibition:
