Hives and Lodges

I'm intrigued by the hive shape these days and now am seeing it everywhere. Here is a beautiful 14th century image of bees and hives that came up while doing beekeeping research. We have decided investigate bee-keeping on our little farm, which seems so obvious given the name: Bee's Wing Farm.

And meanwhile the beavers have been very busy in Mill Brook, adjacent to our property. Yesterday we walked down to see their very impressive constructions. We'd like to get nearer the lodge itself and will be going down regularly to check on these creatures and their myriad projects. More shapes for future art projects.

Edie -- I can't leave a comment over at Bee's Wing so I'll leave it here.

Get chickens. They are messy and they do get eaten by wildife (I lost a bunch just last week) but on the whole I think a flock of free-range hens is one of the prettiest things I know. You can even get NH Reds -- developed right here in Peterborough on the land I'm trying to put a cottage court on.

I love Richard Thompson, too -- over here we're partial to Vincent Black Lighting: "red hair and black leather, my favorite colour scheme."

Cheers.
